Practical Application

City of Garland
Annual Council Appointee Performance and Compensation Report

The following is a performance review utilizing many practical human resources applications. A performance review and compensation study demonstrate the practical application of key Human Resources concepts learned while pursuing an AA in management with a concentration in human resources management. Conducting performance reviews applies HR principles such as objective evaluation, employee development, and aligning individual performance with organizational goals. Similarly, a compensation study puts into practice concepts like those from knowledge of statistic and weighted average, along with benchmarking, and strategic pay structures. Altogether, these experiences show how my learning translates into real-world HR decision-making that supports both employees and organizational effectiveness.

Practical Application

City of Poteet PD
Organizational Review

My coursework in management, human resources, and criminal justice provided a strong foundation that directly supported my ability to assist Michael Boese in developing the organizational review for the City of Poteet Police Department. Through my management and HR studies, I gained knowledge in leadership development, performance evaluation, policy compliance, organizational structure, and best practices for hiring and onboarding. Which are concepts that aligned closely with the report’s focus on leadership transition, supervisory oversight, training gaps, and personnel management. Additionally, my criminal justice coursework strengthened my understanding of policing standards, legal requirements, and administrative procedures, enabling me to analyze issues such as internal investigations, racial profiling documentation, and policy enforcement from both an operational and regulatory perspective. Together, these academic experiences allowed me to meaningfully contribute to identifying systemic challenges, supporting evidence-based recommendations, and ensuring the final report reflected both sound organizational principles and the unique demands of a law enforcement environment.

The video above further supports the impact of the practical application of concepts utilized from human resources concepts and the importance of best practices in hiring and operations in every organization and department. Departmental siloing, while not uncommon can lead to instances in which organizations are at risk for legal liability, discrimination complaints, hostile work environment complaints, and civil rights lawsuits.
